Endometriosis is a condition where the lining of the uterus, or endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus. The most common symptom of Endometriosis is pelvic pain, which is not restricted to just when you have your period.

Endometriosis can cause other types of pain too such as pain with intercourse and pain with bowel movements. Another huge problem associated with Endometriosis is infertility.

The Labor Government on the 22nd March announced that they are delivering funding to 20 clinics across Australia to provide expert, multidisciplinary care for women with Endometriosis and pelvic pain and Leichhardt General Practice was lucky enough to be named as one of these practices.

Our aim with this funding is to reduce the wait time from presentation to diagnosis and improve pain management and outcomes for Australian women with this condition.

It will now take us a bit of time to get the Endometriosis clinic up and running. We are looking at June/July. However, at Leichhardt General Practice, we already have the Inner West Women’s Health Clinic running from our premise. The doctors in this clinic are well versed in Endometriosis and pelvic pain and are the doctors who will staff the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic, so please feel free to come and see us and start your treatment journey.

Appointments can be booked by calling the Leichhardt General Practice on (02) 9561 0300 or the Inner West Women’s Health Clinic on (02) 8880 1011 or booking an appointment online at www.leichhardtgp.com.au or www.innerwestwomenshealth.com.au.
