I’ve had some tests done. What happens now?

How do I find out about my results?

Once we receive your results, a doctor (generally, your regular doctor) will determine if your result:

1. Requires no further action:

There will be no further contact from the practice.

2. Requires non-urgent follow-up:

You will receive a SMS asking you to book an appointment within 4 weeks.

3. Requires urgent follow-up

You will receive a phone call from the practice to make an appointment.

I would like to speak to my doctor

about my results, what should I do?

The practice will contact you, as outlined above, if there is anything on your results that requires follow up.

If you wish to discuss your results with your GP regardless, you are welcome to book a face-to-face or phone appointment via HotDoc or by calling 02 9561 0300.

I would like  a copy of my results. How do I arrange this?

If there is no action required for your results and your doctor does not need to discuss them with you, we won’t bother you with a SMS. If you would like to get a copy of your results, you can access them on My Health Record. Your pathology results will be available for you to see 7 days after the test was performed.

When should I book in for a follow up appointment?

If your doctor has recommended that you return for an appointment to discuss your results, it is a good idea to make an appointment that is a few days to a week after you have had your tests done.

You can ask the pathology collector/imaging provider at the time how long it will take for your result to come back. Most blood and imaging test results are back within 3 business days.
